About The Opportunity

NSC now has an exciting opportunity for an organised and solutions-focused Executive Manager Planning to join the Management Executive team (MANEX) on a full-time basis.

Reporting to the General Manager, you will primarily be responsible for directly managing the Council's planning functions including strategic/forward land use, developmental assessments and the interpretation of relevant NSW Planning and Environmental legislature.

This role is open to Planning professionals of all levels, provided they can satisfy the requirements of the role. 

More specifically, your day to day duties will include, but not be limited to:

  • Managing and carrying out strategic planning functions of Council in line with Council's directive through the Community Strategic Plan and Delivery Programme and Operational Plan;
  • Providing initiative and direction to Council's Manex team in the forward planning of infrastructure related to future land uses required for the delivery of services to the community;
  • Assessing development applications in line with the statutory requirements of relevant NSW legislation including the EPAA, Roads Act, Conveyancing Act etc.; and
  • Manage the collation of the Planning sections records of inspections, approvals and related information to comply with Council and legislative requirements

About You

To be considered for this position you must hold tertiary qualifications in Town Planning, with demonstrated working knowledge of the frameworks of local government and civic planning to assess development applications and strategic planning.

You will be a flexible and adaptable problem-solver with meticulous attention to detail in order to find the best possible outcomes for individuals, developers and Council within legislative requirements. Excellent written and interpersonal communication and negotiation skills will be crucial to your success in managing multiple competing demands while negotiating with a diverse range of stakeholders.

While not mandatory, candidates with significant experience in or knowledge of the legislative requirements of the NSW planning rules or statutory planning and development control under the EPAA will be highly regarded.
