Narromine Shire Council covers an area of 5264 km2 and has a population of approximately 6444 in the rural townships of Narromine, Trangie and Tomingley and the surrounding rural areas. Narromine is located 40km from the regional city of Dubbo.

About the position

Narromine Shire Council is currently seeking enthusiastic, self-motivated individuals for the following traineeship positions:

Indoors:

The positions are funded under the NSW Governments ‘Fresh Start for Local Government Apprentices, Trainees, and Cadets Program’.

The successful applicants will be required to undergo a structured traineeship program, gaining valuable qualifications in their respective fields. 

To be successful in this position you will need to have:

  • Willingness and capacity to undertake studies to Cert 111 or Cert IV level.
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.

It would be desirable for you to have:

  • Completed the HSC
  • Class ‘C’ drivers’ licence – including CP1/2
  • General Construction Induction (CIC – White Card) NSW

The details relating to this position are:

  • The position is graded Operational Band 1/T4 to T6 as per Local Government State Award 
  • The salary range is $827.40 to $1023 per week plus superannuation. The salary step is determined by an annual competency assessment.
  • Outdoor positions - 38 hour working week applies. NSC has a RDO system.  Every second Monday is a rostered day off.
  • Indoor positions - 35 hour working week applies.  NSC has a flexitime system whereby you may work 37.50 hours per week to bank 2.5 hours per week to be used at a later date. 
  • Employment conditions are as per the Local Government (State) Award

Pre-employment screening

  • A functional assessment (at Council's expense) including hearing and drug and alcohol testing
  • Reference checks from your 2 work related referees
  • Any other additional screening that may be relevant to the role
  • Council will check the authenticity of certificates and qualification
