About the position

Narromine Shire Council are seeking a suitably qualified and experienced applicant for the position of Roads Supervisor.

The primary purpose of the position is to contribute to the overall effectiveness of Council by supervising, controlling, monitoring and providing technical support on Council’s roads and rural drainage infrastructure.

To provide a high-quality level of customer service to Narromine Shire Council’s internal and external stakeholders in a professional and courteous manner.

To be successful in this position you will need to have:

  • Certificate III in a Civil Engineering related field.
  • Knowledge of asset management software such as “Reflect”.
  • Demonstrated experience in the management and supervision of staff and contractors carrying out work on civil infrastructure assets of roads.
  • Demonstrated experience in application of technical specifications, project scheduling techniques, project cost estimating and operational project management.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Quality Assurance processes and systems.
  • Experience in contractor management.
  • Sound working knowledge of road construction and maintenance techniques.
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of Workplace Health and Safety requirements.
  • Working knowledge of computer applications, including demonstrated experience using, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, project management software, email and internet.
  • Ability to develop teamwork practices and progress to enhance decision making.
  • Work Zone Traffic Control – Traffic Controller.
  • Work Zone Traffic Control – Implement Traffic Control Guidance Plans.
  • General Construction Induction White Card
  • Class ‘C’ Drivers Licence.

It will be desirable for you to have: 

  • Demonstrated understanding of GIS and GPS control of earthmoving equipment.
  • Awareness of strategic planning of roads infrastructure.
  • Experience in establishing and managing a budget that supports Council's strategic and corporate directions, including consultation with various work teams, accountability for expenditure and revenue, and participation in forecasting and budget management processes.

Special conditions:

  • Commuting “to and from” work vehicle provided.  No private use. 

The details relating to this position are:

  • The position is graded 14 within Council's salary structure
  • The salary range is from $83,172 to $94,102 per annum plus superannuation. The salary step is determined by an annual competency assessment. 
  • 38 hour working week applies. NSC has a RDO system whereby every second Monday is a rostered day off.
  • Employment conditions are as per the Local Government (State) Award
